My Red Scarf

I miss painting people and haven't painted a self portrait in several years.  This was painted "Alla Prima" which means in Italian "at first attempt".  It's the technique I most enjoy when painting figurative work.  The painting is completed at the first sitting and paint is applied wet on wet.  It was fun painting from life again even if it was life reflected in a mirror.

Paint Tubes

I had fun painting tubes yesterday... thought I'd paint some more.

Painting Setup

I decided to clean my studio today and liked the reflections of these paint tubes in my brush cleaning can.  That's about it...

Lovely Luna

This is Luna, one of my niece's dogs.  I haven't met Luna, but I'd sure like to.  You can tell my her photos that she has great energy.  My first attempt at painting her didn't go well, so I started over with a different composition.  I think this one captures her spirit.  She looks like she's ready to play at the slightest excuse.

Bella Canis

This is beautiful Bella.  I met her when she was a pup, but haven't seen her in years.  Her pictures are just as beautiful as I remember her to be.  It was fun painting her brindle coat.  I've been under the weather for the last week and attempts at painting have be terrible, so I haven't posted in a while.  I was happy with the way Bella turned out, so hopefully this means better health and weather in the days ahead.

Spring Rootings

This is painted from rootings of one of my favorite plants.  On cold winters it doesn't always come back so I root some for the springtime.  I particularly enjoyed painting the watering can.  I pulled out a few really old stiff paintbrushes to get a better feel of the texture.

Beer and Limes

This was a holiday beer a friend gave us.  It doesn't need the limes... I just liked the contrast they provided.  This is painted on a 8X10 gesso panel.

Jeannette's Kitties

This is one of my sister's cats.  She claims he was laughing in this photo, and I'm a believer.  He looks like a cat with a great sense of humor and that's the kind I like.  I'm not sure what happened to his ear.  I suspect it happened long before my sis adopted him, but it doesn't appear to hold him back.  I painted him against a bold background to bring out the beauty of grey and to catch the unique look he has going on with the ear thing.

This is her other kittie.  He doesn't look quite as confident, but he has beautiful tiger-like markings.  I suspect he's a sweetie pie.
